Those two were over the line -- tortured and bad. It would make sense to say "Where a spring is around the corner," but leaving out the "a" makes it gibberish. @Rex: your assessment of "trick ending" is somewhat unfair since all of the crosswordese Google hits refer to answers to the clue "Trick ending?", e.g., trickSTER, trickERY. If you exclude crossword from the search there are still 17,200 hits defining endings with surprise elements.My paper publishes the syndicated puzzles on a schedule that doesn't always match Rex's Syndicated link. After being burned a few times that way by spoilers, I learned to find the puzzle of the day by googling Rex Crossword coupled with one or two of the distinctive answers.
