Also, you can craft stone axes rather early with some chipped stones and branches from foraging and some ripped sheets (which you should not have any trouble finding). Some mods let you craft chipped stones from whole stones with a hammer if you are using mods.Personally i kinda like stone axes the most, fairly durable, wont tire you, but takes time to get the durability up, its not as bad as with spears and you can rely on them if you make 4-5 a day and forage.
