The P30L is just a longer slide version of the P30. If there is a safety in play, the P30LS has the shorter slide release. Also, the dust cover is longer. I favor the P30L because the longer slide fits my grip better.I have all versions of the P30 and the L is the one I always take to the range. I prefer the longer sight radius and it does have quite a bit less recoil then the standard P30. It's a joy to shoot. P30L also gives you a longer light rail and is much more balanced in the hand. If it's for range or HD I would get the L.Both are very accurate. However, the sights are FAR better on the vp9. The are big and bright and easy to acquire at a fast pace. Also the notch in the rear sight seems to be a little more wide, making it easier to line up for speed. If you like hammer fired handguns, go with the P30 or P2000 (I prefer the P30 personally), if you want/like striker fired handguns get he VP9. You can mess with the LEM conversion on the hammer fired guns, making the trigger similar to a striker fired set up.

The P30 slide is more difficult to have milled and I have not seen a P30 optics ready slide. You can get a dovetail mount plate for the P30 for an RMR but it sits a bit high, works but looks odd. On the same fence as OP, but for the SK variants.
