For some vehicles, to burp the cooling system all you need to do is add coolant, start and let it run for 10 min, make sure the thermostat opens, which will burp air out, shut the vehicle off, let it cool down, and then top off the levels.Drilling a 1/8'' hole in the thermostat, then installing with the hole in the 12 o'clock position can help you out somewhat. Then maybe not, but worth the effort. It does help from adding coolant every time after the first few heat cycles to the overflow. And a good OEM cap if you can find one is a good idea also.
